Overweight and obesity among eight year old girls in Stockholm has decreased from 17 to 10 percent between 2003 and 2011, according to a national study at the Karolinska Institute, writes Dagens Nyheter.
Among boys the same age, the decrease is not statistically significant. At twelve year old girls is also seen a decrease.
In the rest of Sweden synthesis, however, no reduction among twelve year olds. Researchers still believe that the result is a new trend.
- Stockholm subtract and likely the rest of the country to follow suit, says Finn Rasmussen, Professor of Social Medicine at Karolinska Institutet, DN.
Overweight and obesity among young people began to increase during the 1980s and continued until the early 2000s when the weight curves leveled out.
